Can multiple calendars be created and user per user account?

CSI@K12 supports mulitple calendars for each user, allowing for both organizational and invididual user calendars.

Can calendars be shared with other people?  For example, can a secretary review their supervisor's calendar and make appointments?

Outlook Client - Yes

Outlook Web Access - Yes

Shared calendars may be published to the Global Address List (GAL) where it is deemed useful to publish to the entire organization, or to a public calendar service for publishing outside of the organization.  Users can drag and drop appointments from a shared calendar onto their own calendar.  All domain users share free/bsuy information when creating message requests.  Calendars may be shared usingthe full Outlook client.

The CSI@K12 calendar is like a calendar on the wall, but with lots of extra features.  When an appointment is added, it can be customized in many ways, for example, adding attachements, filling in details as needed, setting a reminder, or making it a repeating appointment so it is automatically added to the calendar on a regular basis.

In addition to creating appointments, the user can set up meetings.  Meetings are appointments that allow the user to invite other users.  Each invitee gets a e-mail message with the details of the meeting.  Depending on their e-mail service, they may be able to use the message they receive to add the meeting to their own calendar.  CSI@K12 also supports the iCal format for sending meeting requests to other types of mail systems.  Meeting requests include the ability to:

  • Review free/busy information fo rdomain invitees for easy scheduling
  • Set flexible reminders
  • Show time as "free", "busy", "tentative", or "out-of-office"
  • Mark the meeting as private so that the contents cannot be viewed when the calendar is shared
  • Choose between Rich Text and Plain Text on a per-message basis
  • Insert links, pictures and attachments (up to 20MB)

Can calendars and cntacts be synched with PDA's, or is the application web-based on mobile devices?

Mobile phones can be used to access CSI@K12 account information, including e-mail messages, voice mail messages, and calendar, contacts, and task data.  This feature requires users to have Windows Mobile 5.0 or a later version or be compatible with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

To obtain mobile phone access for CSI@K12, users must set up an Exchange ActiveSync connection between their mobile phone and the CSI@K12 server.  This connection keeps the mobile phone up to date with your mailbox through a process that is known as synchronization.  A mobile phone can only synchronize with only CSI@K12 mailbox.  When setting up a phone for Exchange ActiveSync, users can select to synchronize some or all of the folliwng information types:

  • E-mail messages:  Synchronize e-mail and voice mail messages in all mail folders
  • Calendar data:  View calendar and add appointments to your Exhange Labs calendar
  • Contacts data:  Access Exchange Labs contacts via mobile phone and place telephone calls to these contacts
  • Tasks data:  View and edit Tasks stored in Exchange Labs mailbox
