Version3 Simple Sign-On and Education
Technology! Technology! Technology!
That has become the mantra in today's educational institutions, especially in K-12. Technology and the dependency on it is greater than ever. This dependency may range from simply browsing the internet for research information to taking a reading or math test to now an entire class depending entirely on computers and web access.
Student Experience
Technology in the classroom is undoubtedly here to stay. It gives the educator tools that never existed before to enhance the learning experience for the student, but there is a caveat that must be addressed. When students enter an application or a web site they somehow must be maintained as an individual on the system. In almost all cases this is accomplished using some form of identity, which most commonly is simply a logon name and password. Every application or website will invariably require a logon. That is the only way to control who the student is and what the student is allowed to access within the program. That is our dilemma?
Need More Time
It seems like there is never enough time in the classroom to get lessons completed or to do everything that is needed. Computers are suppose to assist us in that area, but is seems that instead of assisting they are in some cases hindering. It is not the computers themselves, but the applications that are used. It is not unusual to walk into a classroom, especially in an elementary school, and watch the teacher spend 10 - 20 percent of his or her class time helping students logon to the an application. As children do, they will forget passwords, mistype them, or just simply try to intentionally avoid running the program by claiming they can not logon. So now we have lost time that both the student and teacher can not afford to lose. What is the answer?
